Mordor Intelligence released its 2018 list of companies with the highest share in the MPLS market.
According to the report, listed below are the top five global players:
1. AT&T Inc.
The company’s network includes extensive wireless and wired access capabilities, as well as one of the world’s most advanced Internet Protocol (IP) backbones. AT&T’s network incorporates Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS), which supports a range of applications over a single IP network infrastructure. The AT&T global backbone network carries 4.6 petabytes of data traffic on an average business day. Its backbone network carries a range of IP-based services, including wireless data, business video, data and voice services, private line, and wavelength traffic. In addition, the company also provides IP-based residential services and internet access to more than 15.7 million AT&T’s broadband customers.
2. Cisco Systems Inc.
Cisco Systems Inc. has the leading position in all the markets that it serves. The company is a leader in providing routing, switching, and associated services, including comprehensive security and mobility solutions. According to industry estimates, in the fourth quarter of 2016, Cisco had a share of 55.6% in the Ethernet switching market, and 42.2% in the combined service provider and enterprise router market. Cisco’s worldwide market share in enterprise WLAN was 43.7%, during the third quarter of 2016. The leading market position across all its product segments provides Cisco a competitive advantage over its peers. Besides increasing its chance of winning customers, it also provides economies of scale for the company.
3. BT Global Services Ltd
The company follows a strong brand positioning strategy with separate brands targeting a unique customer base. BT’s brand portfolio includes BT, EE, and Plusnet. BT is one of the most valuable brands in the telecom industry. EE is the largest mobile network operator in the United Kingdom. It provides mobile and fixed communication services to consumers, businesses, the public sector, and the wholesale market. EE has 30 million connections, 18 million of which are 4G. It has an extensive 2G and 3G network, and is UK’s fastest 4G network, covering over 99% of the population.
4. CenturyLink Inc.
CenturyLink Inc. has a strong focus on expanding its strategic revenue base to reduce dependency on legacy products. Strategic revenues are the new and high-growth revenue streams pursued by the company. The strategic services accounted for 46.1% of the total revenues, in 2016. The company’s strategic service revenues registered a CAGR of 5% during this period. The increase in strategic service revenues was driven by increasing demand for MPLS, Ethernet, facilities-based video, and IT services.
5. Verizon Communications Inc.
Verizon Communications Inc. is engaged in providing wireless communication services, including voice and data services and equipment sales; and wireline communication services, including broadband data and video, corporate networking solutions, data center and cloud services, security and managed network services, local and long distance voice services, and global internet protocol (IP) networks. The company’s strong market share enables it with several significant competitive advantages.
